The practice of surgical endodontics in the UK has increased steadily; indeed, the number of apical surgeries performed in the general dental service in the UK has almost doubled over the past 20 years. Whether performed by a restorative, endodontic or oral surgeon, the techniques described in this paper should be within the clinical expertise of surgical dentists. The importance of interaction and co-operation between the general dentist or endodontist and the surgeon in the management of patients with persistent periradicular disease cannot be over-emphasised. Recent developments in techniques and materials for use in endodontic surgery have all been the direct result of advances in endodontology. In surgical orthodontics, where the outcome of treatment is largely predictable, the long-term management of the patient may be compromised by inappropriate inter-specialty liaison. In the practice of endodontic surgery, however, a lack of interaction will often have dramatic effects on not only the long-term but also the immediate outcome of treatment. DOWNLOAD PDF BELOW
